EcoFont: Clever and Functional Way to Save Ink

While writing the frugal printing guide just the other day I came across an extremely useful bit of software to help save ink and toner.

It's called EcoFont and it's an extremely clever way to save ink without having to sacrifice anything. It works in a similar way to when you print in draft, only better.

EcoFont vs Draft Print

As you can see from the above image, EcoFont saves ink in a similar fashion to when you print a draft print, by leaving small, almost invisible, holes when printing. The difference between EcoFont and using draft though, is that the holes in the draft print are equally spaced and often hit the edge of text, distorting and reducing the quality of the text. Ecofont on the other hand are specially designed font that place the holes where they will not affect the appearance of the text when it is printed or displayed.

So what will a few holes do? Well surprisingly a fair bit! They say that they can reduce the ink/toner used by around 28%, which in the long run is a fair amount. If it works as much as they say, that would mean you could get a quarter more from your ink and toner cartridges!

The software does cost, they offer a number of packages including the home addition that costs just $24.95 and a small business package that costs $54.95.
